Did you know the 3-5 building at Aumsville Elementary started out as several separate buildings?

After it was built, new roofs closed it in to make hallways from what used to be outdoor paths. Over the years, the roofs on those hallways keep springing leaks.

The facility assessment identified lots of places that need attention at Aumsville. This video hits some of the highlights.

Six-Seven Day

If you've been around kids at all recently, you know the 6-7 craze! Monday was the 67th day of the school year, and staff at several of our schools did not let it slip by quietly!

Cuneiform Project at Cascade High School

Have you ever made a cuneiform tablet?

In Mr. Dillon's Survey of Military History class at Cascade High School, students are studying ancient battles. We know about all these Sumerian, Babylonian, and Hittite battles because their records survived on clay tablets. They were written in a cuneiform alphabet.
Students had to choose an ancient battle to research, and summarize it in two to three sentences. Then, using a code for cuneiform letters to English, the carved the summary into clay.

After the break, the tablets will be rotated around the room, and students will have to decode the tablets to learn. Hands-on, #everydaylearning at Cascade!

Cascadians Choir Serves the Community

Since their concert in November, where seniors had their first "last" concert, Cascade High School Cascadians has been busy serving our community.

Many singers took a Saturday in early December to ring the bell for the Salvation Army at the Walmart on Turner Road. They sang carols and greeted customers while taking donations for the local programs of assistance in our area.

Cascadians also had the opportunity to sing for a catered event at the Turn Around Cafe, some coming straight from the closing of Wizard of Oz to participate.

Cascadians then spent a day caroling at local retirement homes, businesses and even crashed Turner Elementary's lunch hour. The choir program is so grateful for the support we receive from our community and is always looking for ways to give back!

See our Facebook page for more photos from our concert, salvation army service and caroling around town/retirement homes in Stayton and Turner.

Cascade Will Remain 4A

Just this week, the OSAA overturned their last minute proposal to move Cascade out of the 4A classification.  School leadership was able to share concerns with state officials as to why we should remain in the 4A.  The OSAA agreed!

This move benefits all of our athletic teams and activities.  Everyone from track to baseball, from band to soccer, and from football to choir will have a chance to compete against our traditional rivals and schools with similar cultures.  We are thankful for the chance to stay in 4A where we best fit.

Have a great holiday break, Cascade!
