Cascade Community,

The last few days have been filled with hard things, in Bend and here in our schools.

I am very grateful that all of our students and staff are safe. I am thankful for our great relationships with local law enforcement. I am proud of our staff for putting safety first.

If you haven't seen what has occurred yesterday and today, you can read more information here.

We did an official review of our response today, and next week we will follow up with law enforcement for their input as well. We are committed to continuing to improve in our protocols. We remain absolutely committed to safety and will continue to partner with you and our whole community to help each other.

Sincerely,
Darin Drill, Superintendent

Homecoming Football Game

Cascade High School had a great homecoming night last Friday!

The football team won 34-20, and at halftime, Skylar Morrow was crowned Homecoming Queen.

Special guest at halftime was the 1962 Cascade Homecoming Queen, RoseAnne Garrett!

OMSI Traveling Education at Aumsville Elementary

Hands-on learning about electricity and circuits at Aumsville Elementary, thanks to a visit from OMSI!

Students learned from traveling education from OMSI what electricity is, how circuits work, about currents and loads and switches...and then they got to make their own circuits.

Using wire clips, a hand generator and a battery, they figured out how to light up light bulbs and spin fans. The celebrations when they got it to work were great to watch!

National School Lunch Week

It's National School Lunch Week!

Remember that EVERY week, students can get a nutritious breakfast and lunch at no cost. Well-fed students make the best learners!

And EVERY week, we are so grateful for our nutrition services staff that prepare fresh, healthy food in our schools!

Opportunity Center Students Present to School Board

Students from the Opportunity Center shared at the School Board meeting about how they are thriving with the support at the school!

They highlighted the Student Success class, which develops career skills and supports mental health; being known in a smaller environment; and one-on-one math tutoring as some of the things making a difference.

Construction Bond Moving Forward

Much of our construction bond is going to essential but unseen things.

On our main Cascade High School and Cascade Junior High School campus, our septic system is at capacity and some of it is nearing end of life.

HMK Company brought out an engineering team to walk the existing septic system with the District's facilities staff. We looked at the tanks, the drain field and the pump control panel to scope the work and plan the replacement.

Septic infrastructure is part of the Cascade bond's districtwide building preservation work. We're doing the essential things to serve our students, staff, and community.

Jr. High Students visit OSU

Mrs. Glen and Mrs. Buczynski's classes at Cascade Junior High School had a field trip last week to visit Oregon State University!

We love showing all the options our students have for the future, so they can dream and find what is right for them. You can see more pictures on our Facebook page.

Cloverdale Elementary: One Book, One School

Cloverdale Elementary has a new initiative this year called One Book, One School. This is where the whole school reads the same book and then each child receives a copy of the book to take home and read with their family.

At the beginning of October, they kicked it off with an assembly with the author herself, Trudy Ludwig. She did an outstanding job presenting her books, teaching kids about ways to address someone who might be mean, and also taught our 4th and 5th graders about writing a Haiku.

Such a fun way to begin family and school learning together!

College and Trade School Fair

Wednesday Cascade High School once again hosted schools from around the region for a College and Trade School Fair!

33 colleges, trade schools, and armed forces came to share what they offer to students outside of high school. Our Cascade high students and Opportunity Center students were joined by 7 other local high schools to talk and dream about their futures.

New this year was the chance for parents to come with their students and ask their questions in the afternoon after school. Then, we offered the financial aid information life right after that, trying to make it easy for families to get all the info they need to support the next steps for their students.
